Random Thoughts

- Initiative - innovation is based on people having the initiative to stick their nose in things and change things they don't like even though there are associated costs (monetary) etc.
We have a great CIO at the company that I work at. I think the thing that makes him really great is that he thinking of ways to spend more money. He takes the initiative to ask people throughout the company - "what do you need", "what do you want". He dreams up disaster recovery scenarios or the perfect middleware infrastructure stack. That is what will give us exactly the IT infrastructure we need, when we need it (rather than being a step behind). He has great initiative. I am reading about another tech company right now - it seems to me that they are a market leader because they have engineers that are kind of like our CIO
- "suzy sells seashells" - when I was little, I used to go on trips and collect seashells. Now I go on trips and collect lots of business cards (even "leisure" trips where I see my friends. we are old now.)
- I was at a lecture on Saturday. the speaker believes that the transfer of assets (in exchange for goods) to the developing world to countries like china and india is the solution to the big baby boomer problem of too many retirees and not enough little worker bees like me to support them. Score one point for the developing world.
